Seabird sits on Ward Island, land originally occupied by The Micocosukee (pronounced me-cah-sue-kee) were originally part of the Creek Nation, then migrated to what we now call Florida before it became part of the United States. They were once part of the larger Seminole Tribe. Today the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians are two of three federally recognized Seminole nations. The Seminole Tribe of Florida is the only Tribe in America who never signed a peace treaty. More information can be found here and semtribe.com.
In acknowledging the hardship and contributions of the indigenous people and their ancestors, we honor them past and present in order to create an inclusive and equitable space for all.
In addition to recognizing Seabird’s first people, we also pay gratitude to the land, water and its living beings that continue to nurture us.
F.A.Q.s:
But…it’s Florida
Right. I would argue that Dunedin is a very liberal-adjacent, hippie, friendly Gulf Coast town. While I am a white, cis-woman I think people of any lived experience would feel comfortable here and have an enjoyable time. If you see a Trump 2024 flag, no you didn’t.
Do I need a car?
Not really! Uber and Lyft are everywhere, and you could take one from the airport to the house and then walk or bike everywhere else. It would be easier with a car which you could also rent easily at the airport. There is also the local company, Two Girls Transport :)
On a scale of 1 - maximum chic, how chic are the digs?
Many rentals you might see online have kitschy beach decor, but I pride myself on a minimalist, clean aesthetic with an artist’s touch. I grew up sailing this beach, so a lot of decor in the house is from that life. Everything is new to 2024!
Do you provide beach stuff?
Yes! There are beach chairs, an umbrella, beach towels, and sunscreen here for communal use.
Make it a party!
The Hampton Inn is walking distance off-island with rooms starting at $200/night.
How much?
